'Order police' to release Prageeth
Prageeth Eknaligoda
Mr. Eknaligoda has suppported Gen Fonseka's candidacy
The wife of a disappeared journalist in Sri Lanka has sought judicial remedy to get her husband released.

In a petition to the appeals court, Sandhya Eknaligaoda says her appeals to the authorities to find Prageeth Eknaligoda has receved no positive response.

Although police were informed of the threats to her husband before he disappeared on 24 January, she said, there has been no “fair investigations” into his complaints.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) and other senior police officers were cited as respondents.

FR petitions

The journalist who worked for Lankaenews website supported Gen Sarath Fonseka’s campaign during the last presidential elections, Mrs. Eknaligoda said.

The court is urged in the petition to order police to conduct a full investigation into his disappearance.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court ordered police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to allow counsels of detained military officers to visit them on Sunday.

A three-bench panel chaired by the chief justice made the order after considering a fundamental rights (FR) petition filed on behalf of 18 ex-military personnel arrested on suspicion of supporting Gen fonseka’s candidacy.

The hearing was postponed until Monday.
