Two members of the Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Puligal (TMVP) were shot dead in Batticaloa on Saturday evening, police said. One TMVP member was killed on the spot in Kalawanchikudy and the body of the second man was found hours later. The TMVP is headed by newly appointed MP Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan (Karuna) and the eastern province chief minister, Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan (Pillayan) is the deputy leader of the TMVP. Kalawanchikudy police have begun investigations. Meanwhile, another body was found buried near beach in Navalady on Saturday morning. The Tamil Democratic National Party (TDNA) earlier told BBC Sandeshaya that bodies of two people disappeared after being arrested by the police on 02 October have washed ashore on 04 October in Palamunai. Police have told the relatives that two young Tamils who were arrested in a cordon and search operation were released hours before their bodies washed ashore.
