25 bodies handed over to LTTE
The International Committee of the Red Cross in Sri Lanka says that it's handed over to the Tamil Tiger rebels the bodies of twenty-five of their fighters. The Sri Lankan army says that the rebels were killed in fighting on Thursday as the government's forces made a major advance. The Tigers have not yet made any comment. However, pro-rebel Tamilnet reported that 25 LTTE bodies were handed over to the Vavuniya hospital on Friday by military authorities.
Military spokesman, Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told BBC Sandeshaya on Friday that at least 25 special commandos of Charles Anthony brigade were killed in fighting in Vavuniya. Fighting between the two sides for control of the north of the island has intensified in recent months. Almost every day brings reports of fierce fighting, and often wildly conflicting accounts of casualty figures that are hard to verify. | LOCAL LINKS Army hand over 25 LTTE bodies to ICRC27 June, 2008 | Sandeshaya 'Over thirty' Tamil Tigers killed25 June, 2008 | Sandeshaya
