Minister has arranged a meeting between the parents and Rizana

Sri Lankan ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Adam MJ Sadeeq, told BBC Sandeshaya that the meeting was arranged by visiting Sri Lankan deputy foreign minister.

Minister Hussein Bahila who accompanied the parents to the prison also met deputy governor of the city and other officials in his attempt to save the young Muslim girl's life, ambassador Sadeeq said.

Off to Mecca

He added that only the parents were allowed to meet Rizana.

Prison authorities pledged to arrange another meeting between Rizana and parents on Wednesday before they fly back to Colombo.

Deputy Minister Bahila and the delegation who arrived in Riyadh on Friday is to visit Jedda and Macca before flying back to Sri Lanka.

"He is to appeal to main Imams in Mecca to make a request on Rizana's behalf," Ambassador Sadeeq told bbcsinhala.com.

An appeal was filed against the death sentence on 14 July by a lawyer on behalf of the Sri Lankan embassy.

"Currently there is no imminenant danger to Rizana's life as the appeal is under consideration," the envoy added.
