The Manel Mal Movement (MMM) in Sri Lanka has accused United Nations of publishing misleading allegations against security forces. Report by advisor to UN Special Representative of Children and Armed Conflict, Allan Rock, contained false allegations that security forces help Karuna faction to recruit chills soldiers, the movement said. Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara, a leader of the Movement, accused international media of “misinterpreting” Rock’s statement after his 10-day fact finding mission. BBC blamed “International media like BBC announced that Sri Lanka Army recruits child soldiers,” he told journalists in Colombo. Allan Rock said government forces had forcibly rounded up young Tamil children to fight with Col Karuna's group. "We encountered both direct and indirect evidence of... complicity and participation," he said of the government security services. The MMM expressed concern that “interested parties” are trying to deploy United Nations peace keepers in Sri Lanka. Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna’s (JVP) parliamentary group leader said the accusation was part of a wider conspiracy. Raviraj protest “This is not only an accusation against the army. This is a part of a future conspiracy,” Wimal Weerawansa said. Bengamuve Nalaka thero said the government should not have expressed regret after the killing of civilians in Vakarai last week. “Nobody has a right to accuse the forces of killing civilians as the attack was aimed at the LTTE terrorists,” the Buddhist thero said.
