Jaffna lorry owners 'jobless' | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lorry owners in Jaffna say they were effectively made "jobless" as Sri Lanka Army continue to take their Lorries using Emergency Regulations. Lorry drivers told BBC Sandeshaya that over 100 Lorries were taken by the SLA since 11 August. The drivers have made complaints to Jaffna District Secretary, K Ganeshan, and the Palaly headquarters of the security forces. The security forces who earlier promised to pay compensation did not even issue a receipt when the Lorries were taken away, they added. “We don’t know whether it was the forces or the thieves who took our vehicles,” a Lorry owner told bbcsinhala.com. He said the Lorries were only returned if they were damaged. Civilians killed A shop owner and a worker killed in Jaffna within the last 24 hours.
