Two people were killed and two more injured in the northern Sri Lankan town of Jaffna within 24 hours. A Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) worker was killed and two more injured near Chunnakam power station. A pick-up truck carrying CEB workers has come under attack on Saturday evening between the power station and Alaweddi. Witnesses said unidentified assailants fired at the CEB workers from a deserted building in a paddy field. Curfew passes Nagaratman Linganathan, 53, a father of three, was killed and two other CEB workers, YP Lawrence, 51, and Gangadaran, 43, were admitted to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The workers have obtained curfew passes to work during the evening hours. The security forces have imposed curfew in Jaffna from 6pm (SLT) to 6am. Residents say the shooting incident happened within 500m of a local Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp. On Sunday, a shop owner was shot dead in Iruvalai east by unknown gunmen. Shop owner killed Murugaiya Kuharaj, 36, father-of three, was gunned down by two assailants came in motorcycle. The gunmen have opened fire after entering the shop pretending to be customers. Kopai police have asked the relatives to hand over the body to Jaffna hospital as they had ‘not enough vehicles’ to visit the scene of the incident.
