Funerals held for blast victims
Funerals have been held in Kebitigollewa for the victims of Thursday's bomb attack which killed sixty-four people. This was a day of two parts: funerals for the victims of the bomb attack and air-strikes against the suspected perpetrators.
Families, relatives, villagers - all gathered to grieve over the bodies. The coffins of eleven children were laid out in a row. It was emotional, it was angry. Many here said war was now the only option, that the killing of civilians could not be allowed to go on. Everyone blames the Tamil Tiger rebels. They deny it, but that's their standard response; few believe them. The government has been quick to respond. Air-strikes resumed just after dawn targeting the outskirts of Kilinochchi. The Tigers have said a direct hit on their stronghold would be seen as a declaration of war, but Sri Lanka is already at war in everything but name. | LOCAL LINKS An inquiry is on - SLMM15 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya Attack condemned15 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya Air raids on LTTE targets15 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya International community informed15 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya President visits Kebethigollewa15 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya Bus Bomb kills 6015 June, 2006 | Sandeshaya
