UN has urged the parties to come back to negotiations table
Suicide bomb blast allegedly carried out by Tamil Tiger rebels in an attempt to assassinate Sri Lanka army commander has been strongly condemned by the international community.

Condemning the attack on Colombo’s army HQ, UN Secretary General Kofi Annan has reiterated that the ‘no cause can justify’ acts of violence such as suicide bomb blasts.

Annan has urged the parties to come back to the negotiation table and stressed that return to the war will not resolve any issue between the parties.

'Act of terror'

Describing the suicide bomb blast as an “unacceptable act of terror”, The United States has accused the LTTE of trying to restart the war.

US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs Richard Boucher said the US is joining hands with the international community to exert pressure on the LTTE to stop violence.

Spokesman of US state department, Adam Ereli, has called the attack as a “clear provocation.”

In a statement issued hours after the attack on Tuesday, Sri Lanka’s major international has expressed grave concern on the security situation in the island nation.

Co-chairs

The co-chairs, USA, Norway, EU and Japan has called on the Tamil Tigers to “cease all suicide attacks and other forms of violence”.

The international community is yet to respond on the latest security situation as Sri Lanka military has started air raids on LTTE targets.

Tamil Tigers say tousands of civilans are fleeing the attacks in the east.

The donors co-chairs are to meet on Friday in Oslo to discuss the situation, Norway's International Development Minister Erik Solheim told bbcsinhala.com.
