LTTE had attacked the Navy base in Trincomalee with artillery to which the Navy retaliated to contain the attack.

Commenting on the the attack on the army commander, he said, the incident will not in anyway contribute to assist in the government efforts to acheiving peace.

"It was very unfortunte that the LTTE carried out this attack in the heart of Colombo without any provocation", Kohona said.

This raises the question whether LTTE really wants peace,
and it seems that the LTTE has been determined to derail the peace process and carry out with their murderous campain, he said.
