UNP accuses government of tarnishing the image of former Minister S.B.Dissanayake by bringing false bribery and corruption charges against him. Government could not prove the charges as there was no clear evidence, UNP MP Rajitha Senaratne told a media conference. "The very fact that they were not able to bring about any evidence clearly prove that this is a political stunt by the government,” told the MP, Senaratne. He said that in an earlier occasion former commissioner of Bribery and Corruption, Wickrema Weerasooriya took an official from the commission to the President's house to discuss this matter and the official by an affidavit admitted he did go. Police Superintendent refused to go saying it was not under the purview of his official duties, Senaratne said. When told this was not the only case of political motivation and even civic rights of late Mrs.Bandaranaike was abolished, UNP MP, Rajaitha Senaratne said there had been a different background to the case. However, he admitted whichever the party may be such occurrences could not be accepted. |
