LTTE women leader shot by gunmen
Batticaloa- Ampara women political wing leader Kuveni
Kuveni and two others are now being treated at Kalmunai hospital
A senior Tamil Tiger leader and two others were shot by gunmen in Ampara district on Monday afternoon.

Batticaloa-Amapra district women political wing leader Kuveni and two other LTTE women cadres were taken to Thirukkovil hospital after the shooting at Thambiliwil, head of Thirukkovil police AHM Kariyaperuma told journalists.

The three women were travelling to Thirukkovil in Ampara from Kokkadicholai in a three wheel taxi when they were shot at by an armed man came in a motorcycle, police said.

The wounded are now being treated at the Kalmunai base hospital.

Political wing leader Kuveni and another wounded, Sashimathee have undergone surgeries, police said.

Second eastern leader

Ahalnila, the other wounded women LTTE cadre is taken to the intensive care, Head Quarters Inspector of Kalmunai police LSC Wijethilake told BBC Sandeshaya.

Kuveni is the second Batticaloa-Ampara political wing leader of the LTTE to be targeted within three weeks.

LTTE’s Batticaloa-Ampara political wing leader E Kausalyan was shot dead in the government-controlled areas on 07 February.

The rebels blamed the government for carrying out the killing.

The government denied the accusation and said it was carried out by a rival rebel faction.
