Melverley stands close to where Shropshire meets the hills of Powys. The Vyrnwy and the Severn, with the three peaks of the Breidden hills merge in front of the camera, and the Melverley viaduct, converted from a rail bridge in 1962, sits a little downstream. In winter, when the river is high, much of the land in this picture is under water.
