| Aditya Thakur (Akshay Kumar) is the spoilt son of famous toy maker, Ishwar Thakur (Amitabh Bachchan). Always having his way, Aditya gets to waste dad's money by indulging in chartered flights to Jaisalmer to romance his girlfriend Pooja (Priyanka). He later marries her secretly without papa dearest knowing anything about it. Despite this fact, Ishwar adores his son who can do nothing wrong much to the dismay of his wife (Shefali Shah). Whilst Ishwar dreams of his son taking responsibility of the family business, Aditya's heart is all set of becoming a film star. But soon, life takes a sudden turn for the worse when Ishwar kicks his son out of his house. But unknown to Aditya, his dad hides a painful secret which he finds difficult to reveal. What can this be? And why does he become harsh all of a sudden? Unlike his earlier thriller, Aankhen, director Vipul Shah delves into a different film category by making a family orientated film. The film's lighter moments are provided by Mr Bachchan, Boman Irani and Rajpal Yadav who plays the retarded house servant. With such a combination, the film is bound to bring the house down with laughter - and it does! Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar share a warm screen presence as the father and son respectively. They both do full justice to their roles. But when it comes to the emotional scenes it is the talented Shefali Shah who feels at ease. As for Priyanka Chopra, she has come leaps and bounds since her entry into Bollywood films. Portraying a variety of roles over the past year, Priyanka is now being recognised as one of the top actresses in Bollywood. The musical score provided by music director Anu Malik provides further foot tapping entertainment in between the melodramatic dialogues and proceedings. Overall, Waqt is family film worth seeing due to its unusual storyline of the father-son relationship. A great entertainer for all the family. Reviewed by Manish Gajjar BBC Shropshire Bollywood |
