| This film shows the power of the Rudraksh, a holy seed which once belonged to Lord Ravana (from the great epic saga, Ramayana). Varun (Sanjay Dutt), possesses healing power. He becomes a guinea pig for Gayatri (Bipasha Basu), a scientist from America. She comes to India to research on the subject of the supernatural. Whilst working on various experiments involving Varun, she falls in love with him. The third character in this Bollywood fantasy is Bhura (Suniel Shetty), a labourer. Working for an archaeologist, he uncovers the rudraksh which he secretly keeps for himself. But the power of the holy seed begins to have a negative effect on him. Bhura becomes power hungry to the extent that he creates havoc in parts of the world. For some unexplained reason, he also wants Varun to join him on his evil quest. So this leads to some Matrix style fight sequences to prove who is the most powerful. So do you think Bhura will win over Varun? I'll leave you to figure this one out, bearing in mind that we are talking about a Bollywood film here! The special effects employed in this film could have been much better. They appear tacky compared to the Hollywood standards which we are accustomed to. Having said that, some sequences such as the appearance of the storm will keep you engrossed. The film relies heavily on Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty. Both Bipasha and Isha Koppikar do not have much scope to exhibit their talents. They play the damsels of the male leads. Being a scientist, Gayatri 's dress sense should have been properly thought of. Instead, we see her in the most fashionable and skimpy wear. In reality scientists do not dress that way! In trying to concentrate on the special effects, the director fails to pay any attention to the screenplay. This is reflected in the finished product. Overall, Rudraksh is a film which only entertains in parts. With a half baked screenplay, it would be interesting to see how it fares at the UK box office.
