Alex Judd was winning the election war and loving it. Scott, Gina and Raymond made Eileen see that rather than getting rattled, she had to learn to be a politician and play the game. Priority number one was to practice her speech, but when she tried, an old phobia of public speaking resurfaced and she fainted! Scott tried another strategy and persuaded Gordon to sponsor Eileen's idea of personal alarms for the women of Shieldinch while the attacker is on the loose. Meanwhile Alex was canvassing the streets with some success. Eileen was on the verge of withdrawing when Alex revealed that the press had allegations about her involvement in Archie's cliff fall. Alex's attitude enraged Eileen, and provided her with the motivation she needed to stand and fight. Nevertheless, when Alex distributed leaflets on voting day using the allegations to smear Eileen's name, she was rattled. She suffered a further blow when Scott's mum phoned with news that his dad had been taken ill. Eileen had now lost her campaign manager, but the whole family (including Brian) rallied round to persuade her not to chuck it in.
Alex's campaign was not without hitches either, though, and his insincerity and dirty tactics started to lose votes. Lizzie had enough and told Alex where to stick it. When Eileen showed up at the ballot result with her whole family in support, Alex realised he had failed to scare her off. The reversal of fortunes was complete when the returning officer announced that Eileen has won a shock victory.
Meanwhile Deek was worried as relations between Nicki and Bob were getting strained, especially as Nicki seemed to being going on about Charlie all the time. They two of them were acting and bickering like an old married couple. When Charlie came looking for Nicki in the garage, Bob inexplicably lied and told him that she wasn't around. He then guiltily confessed this to Nicki, who walked out. Bob tried to go after her, but the car he is working under moved and he got stuck underneath!
Later, Charlie found Nicki sitting on George's bench, but the meeting was awkward and they found they had nothing to say to each other. Nicki returned to the garage where she found Bob still stuck. She got him out from under the car just in time, as it crashed down on where he was lying. As the car crashed down, the pair grabbed for each other and although eventually they pulled apart, something definitely happened between them!
Fear of the attacker had been building in Shieldinch and Gina and Ruth had been particularly affected - not helped by Jack's constant and insensitive flirting, which even Gordon was finding inappropriate. At the victory party, Gina waited and waited for Eileen to walk home with her, eventually deciding to go home on her own. On the way, Gina was attacked. Eileen heard screams and came to her sister's rescue, but the attacker ran off.
