Marianne explained to Daniel that despite being run ragged at the surgery without Sammi, she wouldn't give up being a doctor. However, when Ruth turned up offering her services as a nurse, Marianne wasn't interested. Marianne spotted a tired looking Raymond and helped him bring a delivery into the shop. She suggested he make an appointment but he said he was fine, although he was clearly distracted and he didn't notice that she'd brought in some cooked chicken and put it out the back of the shop.

Liz took Malcolm to see Marianne and admitted that they both felt ill. When Malcolm mentioned having eaten from the Deli, Marianne suspected food poisoning and asked for samples from both of them. After more cases of food poisoning, she went round to the Deli and told Ruth and Raymond she suspected Ecoli. Ruth was angry on Raymond's behalf but a shattered Raymond was all for giving up and closing the Deli for good.

After Ruth told Marianne that the Deli had supplied the Tall Ship with that day's lunches, Marianne told Ewan about the situation and he closed the pub, sending Scarlett home. Lenny was not happy with this, and rushed round to confront Marianne. She defended her decision but got a phonecall confirming that the outbreak was gastroenteritis, and not Ecoli. Lenny was furious and told Marianne she wasn't wanted in Shieldinch.

Malcolm was taken ill and a shaken Liz ran for help, asking Ruth to come and making it clear that Marianne wasn't required after she'd wrongly diagnosed Malcolm earlier. Ruth explained that Malcolm had a bug and that he should take plenty of fluids. However, he took a turn for the worse, and realising there was something seriously wrong, Ruth ran round to get Marianne. Malcolm had slipped into a diabetic coma. After reassuring her that Malcokm would be fine, Marianne told Ruth not to beat herself up about missing the signs that Malcolm was diabetic. She confided that she was afraid that she wasn't cut out to be a doctor. Ruth said that was nonsense. Having sorted their differences out, Marianne offered Ruth her old job back, much to Ruth's delight.

Although Jimmy was excited about his first day as Pest Control Officer, Scarlett admitted to GIna that the thought of Jimmy being 'the Rat Man' made her skin crawl. Gina told Scarlett not to let Jimmy know how she felt and Scarlett tried to make it up to Jimmy by planning a big romantic night in. However, when it came down to it, Scarlett couldn't get past seeing Jimmy in his work uniform. Jimmy realised Scarlett was ashamed, and hurt and angry, he told her that she wasn't good enough for him. Scarlett ran to the pub, only to run into Lenny who fired her for organising lunches from the Deli. Jimmy found her in the pub and took her home, saying he forgave her and took back what he said.

Eileen gave an interview to journalist Lizzie Dougan unaware that it was all set up to be a hatchet job and had been arranged by Alex Judd. When the paper came out, Eileen was horrified at the way that her words had been twisted, but soon realised who the culprit was. She told Alex that as far as she was concerned, this was war.
