The true extent of Bob's financial difficulties became clear. Nicki discovered a bundle of red bills and confronted him. He'd been building up loads of debts and paying huge amounts of interest. He refused any help but Nicki made sure that Deek 'accidentally' found out what was going on.

Meanwhile, Deek planned to snap up more repossessed property at auction but was forced to reassess his plans when he witnessed a mugging but was too cowardly to act. After hearing Scarlett's concern for the victim, Mrs Grant, and her prayer to St Anthony, Deek was inspired.

Instead of snapping up Mrs Grant's flat as planned, he did a good deed by anonymously donating the value of cash that was stolen. Buoyed by his gesture of goodwill, Deek threw himself into a series of financial gestures all under the pseudonym Anthony Saint - he bought Ruth a dress for her school reunion, purchased an expensive piece of machinery for the garage, and paid off most of Bob's debts.

Bob wasn't happy when he worked it out – he dislikes being treated as a charity case and decided the only way he can pay Deek back is by making him a partner in the garage. So the two friends shook hands and agreed that Bob will be the mechanic, while Deek will take care of the finances.

Following Stuart's arrest, Amber was convinced he is innocent and harboured a suspicion that her dad was somehow involved. She asked Ewan to look into it but, although it killed him to do so, Ewan supported Lenny by lying to Amber. He told her Stuart really was dealing drugs.

There was more tension in the McKee household as Daniel tried to keep a lid on his secret while Ewan's revelation was tearing Sammi apart. Sammi told Ewan that if there is to be any hope at all for their relationship she needs to know who was driving the car that night. A broken-hearted Ewan couldn't betray Amber for a second time and so had to face up to the fact that his relationship with Sammi is over.

Malcolm was also on edge, having witnessed Lenny's beating. He confided in Liz who thought he should call the police but Malcolm wasn't keen. The incident had made him realise that he's not the same man he was thirty years ago and that frightened him. Liz offered Malcolm support and words of wisdom, and a conversation with Ruth about their joint fears helped him come to terms with the man he is today.

Ruth received an invite to a school reunion but didn't fancy it. Gina thought it would do her good but Ruth was worried about what people would think about her. Iona echoed Gina's sentiment and reminded Ruth that nothing ventured is nothing gained.
Ruth surprised her by agreeing and asked Iona for the vacant job in the Deli. A delighted Iona accepted, while Ruth was pleased she seized the moment.

When Ruth heard about Joanne's spur of the moment decision to go to London to visit Nazir she was spurred on to be more adventurous. And following a chat with Malcolm she headed off to the school reunion, feeling very happy about who she is.
