The Faroes

Hazel has just returned from the Faroes, a place we are planning to visit with the boat in 2009. Currently we have over 30 divers clamouring for a place on board, a chance to dive in the utterly unspoiled waters surrounding this tiny group of islands. Everything is very expensive out there, food is extortionate! Alcohol - dont even ask. I suggested filling the top water tank of the boat with beer, but i would probably forget and make tea with it.

So, look out Torshavn, here we come (in 18 months anyway).

Third from bottom: is that a Viking oil rig? Just curious...

Super place, it has been on my wish list of destinations for 30 odd years. Becoming easier again now with Atlantic Airways connecting to Sumburgh and the Norrona now calling at Scrabster. Maybe," Next year in Torshavn."

Third pic up is actually the bow of a wooden ship. No idea why they have done what they have with it though!

Is that white Vikings say ("Next year in Torshavn"), Hyper-B? # Personally, "Next year in Jerusalem" sounds more appealing. The best heirloom pomegranates ...,

Hyper-B.: did you not have a IB blog of your own once? How about re-jigging it? A good new year's resolution, that would be. You live in the northern isles, and so you have no excuse for not taking the time and making the effort to entertain the rest of us. Do a posting, and I promise to be among the first to make a snide remark on it!!

MJC: maybe its the cost that puts HB off! I find the cost of getting to and fro the islands --be the northetn isles or the western isles is really expensive--what puts me off! i fyou calculate the difference in distance from here to nz along with the price and the distance from mainland scotland or an island and compare the price -i wonder which is cheaper?

!/ In the days of what were once called "The Arab Revolt" mjc, a certain T E Lawrence and his mates would say," Next year in Damascus." Just goes to show folks are much the same. 2/ Never had a blog but I do like commenting, no committment just mischief that's me. 3/ Cost is a factor but convenience is more significant, When I first lived in Shetland there was a flight from Copenhagen to the Faeroes which called at Kirkwall to refuel and one could buy tickets on it. Smyril line also called at Scrabster. Now I live in Orkney and for a few years Shetland has had a ferry connection to Torshavn and more recently Atlantic Airways have connected Faeroe to Stansted via Sumburgh. Things change the boat connection looks like it will be via Scrabster next year so watch this space.
