Mud

After a few days of rain which was more like solid water with air holes cut into it, the farm is pretty soggy. The area outside of the poultry is swimming in a fine sloppy mud, so i don my wellies and venture out into the wind.

Pushing the heavy yard brush soon a great tsunamis of what looks like chocolate sauce is shoved out into the drain. Following it up with the hose soon everything is clean and tidy, a quick splash of disinfectant and i can carry on with the other jobs.

The tribe of cats, Tuffy the Rodent Slayer and her pride of kittens, who are not really kittens anymore, they just got to half grown and gave up as far as i can see. Like mini moggie asassins they keep the rats and mice well away from the farm. Food is poured into their dish and i somehow expect to see one of them abseil from the dusty rafters, but they just seem to appear like magic.
The dogs hoover up any escapee biscuits, Pete looking very much like a living teddy bear with a handlebar moustache and Buttons the chocolate labrador who is quite honestly the stupidest dog i have ever ever met. Totally the lights are on but there is no one at home. I wonder if there has ever been anyone at home, or if there is a huge pile of unopened mail behind the front door for the previous occupant.

Way too many cats DOAD. Is this some conspiracy, that Island Blogging is only open to cat lovers? Well I'm here, and I don't have a cat...

Tws from The Kennel Clubbing

I can lend you one hehe. I love all the animals, but the cats were born in my bathroom at 5am, hence the photos (and they think im their mum too). Buttons and Pete are a bit manic to take pictures of, plus they are usually covered in mud, sheep poo, straw etc. I will endeavour to take more doggy piccies to keep you happy!

Helen from Orkney

Pets seem to be taking over the island. As to intelligence in labs: greater abilities seem to be mostly confined to black ones. Border Collies are exceedingly bright and fun, but they can't dive into freezing waters to bring back a duck or goose. Got to admit that cats in photos somehow look alright.

mjc from NM,USA

I beg to differ, mjc, Mac would dive into any temperature of water and fetch just about anything, including a duck or goose, out of it. The problem, however, would lie in him not handing over the duck or goose. It's difficult enough getting him to hand over a ball!

Ruthodanort from Unst

'Somehow look alright' hey? I'll give you 'alright'! Deckhand, have you any idea of the swoonings, the yearnings, the oooooo's aaaaaaaa's and aaaaawwwww's you have caused in Rolling Acres!

Flying Cat from J'accuse!

DoaD, Just one thing to say. Awwww.... Them critters are just too cute. PS. Thanks for the pictures of the Valkyre.

CVBruce from CA,USA

Sam is a cutie, but he has the most whining miow i have ever had the misfortune to hear.....miooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww which can roughly be translated to i need a cuddle/fed/let out of where i have got stuck etc. We are apparently getting a new dog. Something huge i cant remember the name of....apparently they stand 32inches at the shoulder. Which is considerably longer than my inside leg.....feeling slightly miffed about that.

H from Orkney

hmmm, better hide this blog from junior staff, he's been muttering he wants a kitten of his very own, how soon they forget, i chose him as one of my humans!

mia from purrondering at the pc

Don't let them mia! If you can't stop them, make sure it is a very very small male cat that you can easily dominate. Is Senior Cat still around? You could always consult the wisdom of age.

Flying Cat from keeping on top of things

Mia, frame a picture of a cat and stick it where he can see the gaping mouth when he goes to sleep. I forgot: put some phosphorescence on the picture so it glows in the dark. If that does not turn him off cats, nothing will. Some folks are beyond help.

mjc from NM,USA

I think I'm ok for the moment, junior staff has to convince male staff and female staff is staying neutral (I just know she would give in to temptation!) Unfortunately Senior Cat has slipped his mortal coil at the grand old age of 19, so i'm an only cat these days.

mia from being a familiar

Oh poor mia alone and palely loitering. With the passing of Senior Cat to the Great Volefields in the Sky, there is no excuse not to bring a sweet little kitten into your home so that you will have something to look up to you. It's your right as a would-be Senior Feline. Or rather, Senorita Feline... mmmmmm I can just picture you doing the Flamenco...

Flying Cat from most kindly recommending...

flamenco and pole dancing, what a cv to have..... I quite enjoy being an only puss, male staff is very good at catering to my whims and makes a very good lounging spot as well. I do still have downstairs Cats and Senior staff as well to dance attendance on me of a working day.
