Sunshine On A Rainy Day

With the sword of Damocles hanging over this and every other blog on Island Blogging, this could be one of the last blogs.

The sun is setting on this scene, like the blog.

Cold as Ice

As cold as ice.....

Sleety view

After saying how nice the weather has been all summer winter came and got us last Saturday. It was cold with a strong north wind. Reminds us of winter again.

Two days later there was this gorgeous sunrise.....

Sunrise

Just to prove how nice the summer has been. This cooking apple (weighing a whopping 18oz) was grown in a polytunnel here in Fetlar this summer. Its much bigger than a 50p piece as you can see. Its huge!!!

Forever Autumn

The summer sun is fading as the year grows old; And darker days are drawing near... The winter winds will be much colder .....

So lets re-live the long, hot, hot summer of 2008 in Fetlar.

A summer when the cafe served 1115 people, the sun shone for more than 3 days in a row, temperatures peaked at a barmy 22 degrees, the wind forgot to blow, tourist signs appeared all over the isle, people sat out and ate (without thermals) and Lerwick had over 135 hours of sunshine in August.

We actually had more sunny days than even the toon as we saw very little fog.

Here's a few snaps:
Delicious melon in the cafe.

A starter in the hall cafe during a Sunday Lunch.
Heather

An abundance of different colours of Heather this year.
Hnefatafl

Inaugural World Hnefatafl World Championship held in Fetlar this summer. Next year its on August 1st.
Nae school

School was out on the day this was taken in July. The school has 2 pupils now.
Sailing away fae Fetlar

A couple of days after the killer whales.
Beautiful weather

Sun & lots of it.
Clear sky

Another good day beckons after this sunset.
Throw the ball then!

Mac enjoys Tresta (& the ball).
Yummy ice cream

Another excellent course from the Fetlar Cafe: homemade neopolitan ice cream. One of 4 delicious flavours.

Happy Autumnal Equinox!

Killer On The Loose

There's a killer on the loose.....

Thought I'd post a few pictures of the summer activities over the next couple of posts.

These are the killer whales seen in July. I didn't get this photo though. I've had to grovel for it.

Play Misty For Me

Lots of sun equals lots of mist. July has been a strange month so far. It was 18 degrees in the shade the day this picture was taken, 31 degrees in the full sun. Then the mist came......

Not misting the ball.

Sugar Sugar

Yummy!

The Fetlar Community Cafe held an Ice Cream Sunday last week. There were 4 flavours of home made ice cream to devour. All were made in Fetlar and most featured produce grown in Fetlar.

There were 4 choices of home made ice cream to be tasted: Golden Bay, Lemon Alaska, Christmas Pudding & Aaliyah Rose Celebration.
The Lemon Alaska had Thyme in it, Aaliyah Rose contained Rosewater and was garnished with Strawberries grown here in Fetlar and the Golden Bay ice cream was made with locally grown herbs. All in all, three quarters of the cafes takings was due to the sales of ice cream.
The Aaliyah Rose Celebration ice cream , which was light and delightful, was named after the chef's new born grandchild.

A nice way to be celebrated!

Choices Choices

All were delicious. I tried them all.

The Cafe, which is open from 12 -4 every day, hopes to make the ice creams more of a feature.

DISCO

He is D: Dancing for the ball
He is I: Impossibly agile
He is S: spherically crazy
He is C: Crazy, crazy
He is O, o, o!

Walk tall!

He is also slightly unhappy as the weather has largely been too warm for a Collie with a thick, black coat to spend any time in the full sun.

Mac walk!

Don't worry he wasn't walking & it was very early one morning before the sun really got going.

Poor dog!

Don't Stop Me Now!

Don't Stop Me now. I'm having such a good time, I'm having a ball!

Wahey! The Summer Ferry Timetable is here. This means more ferries out on a Saturday. In fact, Saturday is the new Friday. No less than 8 ferries out a day.
This means that I could sneak past passport control at Hamar's Ness and go down to the big metropolis (Lerwick) on something called a bus. Wow!

In the sprawling metropolis I saw someone cruising along the strip (Commercial Street & the Esplanade actually). Who is that girl? Why doesn't she blog aymore?

Lazy Hazy Crazy Days Of Summer

Roll out those... Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer......

The pictures will say it all on this blog....
The anticipation!

Its officially summer...... temperature in double digits (10 degrees celsius, not farenheit) & a glowing orb periodically in the sky.

Got my ball back!
Must get the ball!
Busy beach at Tresta
Twisting by the sea!
Almost!

A very portable Mac Flying Cat.
