Development
As well as impressive areas natural environment and great leisure opportunities, the North East coast of Scotland also has urban and industrial areas of major economic importance. The most significant of these areas is Aberdeen.
Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest city and has seen major coastal development, along its beachfront, at its harbour and off-shore. The city supports many types of industry, including energy (particularly oil and gas), shipping and tourism.
Recent proposals for the futuredevelopment of Aberdeen have caused conflict.
There are plans to build an off-shore wind farm around a kilometre from the city’s harbour. This development is very controversial, and many groups have differing opinions about the impact it will have on the area.
