‘Scrutinise the level and quality of cultural representation of the UK’s nations and regions across the BBC networks’

The Council considered this priority as part of its review of the public purposes, and in the context of Priority 3.

The Council welcomed many successful instances of cultural representation during the year in factual output, from Panorama and Mountain to Coast and Springwatch. However, the Council believes that the level and quality of representation of Scotland in network news and entertainment, especially drama, is not suffi cient for the BBC to achieve its public purpose of representing the UK, its nations and communities.

Going forward

• The Council will continue to monitor representation of Scotland in the network schedules as part of its consideration of the public purposes, and in the context of the Executive’s review of network supply.
