FESTIVAL DIARIES

Hosting the main stage

Huw Stephens

By Huw Stephens

Radio 1 DJ Huw is hosting the Main stage at Reading this year. Watch his video diary and find out what he gets up to.

Late start

12.30pm Sunday

I was a bit late today, so I didn't get to introduce Gym Class Heroes. Very unprofessional. Hopefully my day will get better from here on in...

That's magic!

1.15pm Sunday

This massive man is J.T., head of security. Watch as I try and bamboozle him with a magic trick. I'm no Paul Daniels, mind.

The Good Life

2.00pm Sunday

Next year, don't bother with a three-day pass. Just get an allotment next to the site like these folk. Genius!

Buggy ride

2.30pm Sunday

I decide to travel in style and flag down a buggy on the way to the NME/Radio 1 Stage - just in time for New Young Pony Club.

Bethan's joke

2.45pm Sunday

I meet up with my pal Bethan, who's DJing on the NME/Radio 1 Stage. She gives me all the backstage gossip and tells a joke which I think is meant to be something to do with Klaxons' Golden Scans.

A tribute to Tony Wilson

4.00pm Sunday

I'm going to play Joy Division's Love Will Tear Us Apart on the main stage as a mark of respect for Tony Wilson. What people often don't realise is how much of a champion of new bands he remained. He was really into Funeral for a Friend and Lostprophets for example.

Backstage gossip

7.45pm Sunday

There's been loads going on today. The Maccabees had to play with a replacement drummer, I saw Trent Reznor checking out Maps and Lostprophets absolutely tore apart the main stage. I'm off to see Gallows now - top!

Gallows and Goodbye.

8.00pm Sunday

Over at the Radio 1 Lock-up stage, I catch a breather before piling into see Gallows. They're easily one of the most hyped acts of the weekend and Frank from the band reckons the Radio 1 Lock-up stage might actually come down during their set. It's been an amazing weekend. See you next year?
