Wilkie Collins' haunting Victorian thriller becomes a musical
Adapting a well-loved book for television or stage is always a risky venture. Turning one into a musical is even more fraught. Andrew Lloyd Webber's latest production is based on the The Woman in White , the Victorian novel by Wilkie Collins.
Sonia Friedman, producer of the new musical discusses with Martha how the classic thriller has been adapted for the modern stage. Catherine Peters, author of a Wilkie Collins' biography, The King of Inventors and novelist, A L Kennedy join Martha and Sonia to explore how the author used his novels to highlight the problems of women in Victorian society.
