The legacy of a 17th century nun, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz
Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz was one of Mexico's most notable and prolific writers. Although she began her career at court, where she was feted for her beauty and intelligence, she entered a convent at the age of 18 to avoid marriage and continue her studies.
Her play House of Desires, currently playing in Stratford is a delightful comedy about a brother and sister caught in a web of love and confusion.
Judi Herman went to find out more about the unconventional nun.
House of Desires is at the SwanTheatre, Stratford-upon-Avon from 30 June to 1 October 2004
