We’re now nearing the end of the summer term. Education at its best aims to instil young people with confidence and prepare them for life in the wider world and a comprehensive school in Somerset thinks it's found the recipe in the form of what they're describing as a revolutionary new type of school council. The Blue School in Wells has been pioneering an approach called “Learning to Lead”. Most school councils follow a fairly typical formula, with a small number of pupils elected annually to represent the student voice, with limited levels of responsibility. At the Blue School there are 1500 pupils, and 250 of them are on the school council. Reporter Jo Dwyer went along to find out more about how it works.
