How this Persian tale of a cruel princess has inspired writers and composers
The UK premiere of Brecht’s Turandot is currently playing at the Hampstead Theatre in London. This tale of a cruel princess has enthralled other writers and composers such as Gozzi, Busoni and most notably Puccini whose version included the famous Nessun Dorma aria. Jane is joined by John Deathridge, professor of music at King's College, London and Hilary Finch, music critic on The Times, to discuss this fable about a woman who refused to get married, outwitted men and cut off her suitor’s heads.
