Stroke: what needs to change in patient care?9 July 2008
Will the new guidelines make a difference?

New guidelines are due to be published shortly, advising health practitioners how best to care for those who have had a stroke. Although more stroke patients now have access to the specialist stroke wards than ever before, there are still many areas of the country where big improvements are needed in the speed of diagnosis and treatment, and in the availability of longer term rehabilitation. But will the new guidelines really make a difference? Jenni is joined by Jim and Sadie Shield, who are still dealing with the effects of Jim’s stroke five years ago. They are joined by Pippa Tyrrell, Senior Lecturer in Stroke Medicine at Manchester University and Honorary Consultant Stroke Physician at Salford Royal Foundation Hospitals' NHS Trust.
