On her life in the theatre and the fringe awards she set up.
Blanche Marvin is an extraordinarily vigorous eighty-two year old known on the theatre scene, not only for her knowledge and influence but also for her exotic outfits which are themed for the productions she goes to every day. She also established the prestigious ‘Empty Space …Peter Brook Awards’, to which the influential theatre director lends his name. They were set up to recognize the work done in the country’s fringe theatre spaces and were given earlier this week at a special ceremony at London’s Young Vic Theatre, which along with the Drum Theatre Plymouth, won an award for its own studio space. Judi Herman has been trying to keep up with Blanche and finding out more about her long and varied career in the theatre.
