Jodhi May had her big break in acting at the age of 12 by accident when a casting director came to her school.
She was chosen for a role in A World Apart, and went on to share the best-actress award with Barbara Hershey at Cannes in 1988. Known to TV viewers from Tipping the Velvet and recently in Stephen Poliakoff’s Friends and Crocodiles, Jodhi is now on the stage in London in Peter Stein’s critically acclaimed play Blackbird. She plays the role of Una, a woman who also had a life changing experience at the age of 12 – but one far less positive than her own.
Jodhi joins Martha Kearney to talk about her career and her role in this harrowing new play.
Blackbird is on at the Albery Theatre, 7th February to 13th May 2006. Box office – 0870 950 0920.
