Is the process of getting help for children with special needs working?
As the school year gets underway, some parents say they face difficulties in getting extra help if their child needs it. There are criticisms that the process of getting a Statement of Special Educational Needs – which sets down measures to help the child – is unnecessarily difficult. Jane will be hearing about the problems and finding out what can be done to make the process work better, with David Chaytor MP - who's a Labour member of the Education Select Committee, Councillor Les Lawrence of the Local Government Association and Julia Thomas from The Children's Legal Centre.
