The Graeae, girl gangs of Greek mythology16 Feb 2006
The Graeae in the Crucible's production of 'Eyecatcher'
You've probably heard of the Sirens, the Furies, the Harpies, the Fates and the Gorgons but what about the Graeae?

It was their job to guard and protect their famous sister Medusa. The poor things shared just one eye and one tooth between them, so it's little wonder Perseus was able to trick them and then decepitate Medusa.

A new play Eyecatcher, is about the Graeae and Classics Professor Edith Hall joins Jane Little to discuss the lesser known girl gangs of Greek Mythology and why she thinks the women often get a raw deal.

Eyecatcher is at Sheffield's Crucible Theatre from 7 to 18 February.
