Meet the team

Fi Glover

An image of Fi GloverAfter starting her BBC career as a filing clerk in News Information Research Fi Glover rose through the ranks via the BBC Trainee Reporter Scheme which took her on a trip around various local radio stations before settling at London's GLR.

Before too long Radio Five Live beckoned and after sitting in on almost every show at Radio the station she took up the reins of the late night programme and stayed with the station for several years departing to try her hand at writing a book while in the United States.

This was rudely interrupted by a call from Radio 4 to present Broadcasting House which she did for 18 months before leaving to have a baby. She is now poised and waiting for you on Saturday mornings with yet another programme with a self explanatory title.

Maria

An image of MariaMaria spent her formative years swimming and eating cheese sandwiches in Nibley, near Yate, near Bristol. Very little happened in seventeen years so after a brief stay in France she ran away to Birmingham and married the first man with a decent record collection she met.

After late night work experience at Pebble Mill and a "proper job" at Radio 4 (copyright Mrs Williams), the record collection moved to London. So Maria followed, freelanced and finally landed a job at Radio 1, just before the pop world's answer to the Night of the Long Knives.

Staying firmly put, Maria interviewed stars, made documentaries, specialised in film, and advised the UK's teens on everything from sex to exam stress.

Ten years later she returned to the Radio 4 fold with a stint as Deputy Editor on Woman's Hour until she decided that the only way to get out of sitting in a cold shed watching her children do sports on a Saturday morning was to jump ship and join Saturday Live. A fine decision. And not just for the bacon sandwiches.

Becky

An image of beckyBecky's first work experience was in a china factory in Stoke-on-Trent , where she soon learned the importance of a well constructed pot.

Journalism seemed like a logical next step, and a few years down the line she got a job writing international news features for the internet company Out There News. She briefly tried to solve the world's problems at a development NGO, before deciding it was much more fun to make programmes about them instead, courtesy of You and Yours on Radio 4.

Becky is new to Saturday mornings - both the being at work thing, and the general "a.m." experience, but is said to be coping well.

Torquil

An image of a Convolvulus Hawk MothTorquil is no stranger to Saturday mornings having enjoyed stints on Loose Ends in the dim and distant past and, more recently, Excess Baggage. And then there was Stuart Maconie's Five Live topical laughter fest The Treatment. That was on a Saturday too.

He spent several months in the late 90s running the Top of the Pops website and was delighted to receive substantial amounts of hate-mail from fans of the Corrs.

If Saturday Live was a vintage analogue synthesiser, Torquil thinks it would be a Sequential Circuits Prophet 5. His 'must see' insect is the Convolvulus Hawk Moth.

JP

An image of a toy monkeyA former Head of Barcoding, Laminating and Reboxification in the Sound Archive as well as voiceover artist for Gerry Adams under the broadcasting ban, this man's skills are a valuable asset to any team who want to take him off our hands. He is also recognised as the most famous diabetic in Broadcasting House.

Lottie

Lottie has worked on Woman's Hour, the News Quiz, Any QuestionsExcess Baggage... but she openly admits the hightlight of her radio career was blowing the whistle on Just a Minute.

Paula

Paula's first job was reporter for Heathrow Airport's staff newspaper - not a good move for someone with a profound fear of flying.

She joined BBC Radio 4 twelve years ago, starting out on Going Places - highlights included throwing pots with Alvin Stardust and learning how to make a Mongolian yurt.

Paula has produced a range of Radio 4 programmes including Home Truths, the Food Programme and the Wine Programme.
