Last week David Stafford talked to Melvin Smith, the great-great-great grandson of Granny Smith, originator - if that's the word - of the eponymous apple.
This awakened the previously unsuspected but clearly unslakeable thirst for apple knowledge that's out there lurking. Loads of people had a little drop of apple knowledge to add to the general pool.
To further muddy the waters, we also heard of a Dr. John Spurway in Australia, who's a desendant of the Australian branch of the Smith family. David gave him a call.
