My Granny Smith

Listen to the item

Last week, Annabel Chapman admitted she had a passion for collecting fruit stickers - by fair means or foul. This week, we go one better and meet Melvin Smith, the bona fide great-great-great-grandson of Granny Smith.

That's not just any old Granny Smith, it's the one after whom the apple was named. You can see a picture of her on the website below (thanks Margaret Emery, for telling us about it).

Melvin talks to David Stafford about how he felt when he discovered that he had such a famous forbear.

Can you claim descent or tenuous connection with a famous fruit? We'd love to hear from you, so do email us here
