 Listen to the item
When Carla Delaney saw a naval item on this website it started her memory whirring. She emailed us to explain:
"I am interested because my father, Richard Keith Pexton, was on Russian Convoys in the war - very dangerous. He told me that there was a reindeer on board his vessel - HMS Kent. That, and the fact that cats wore life jackets was a fabulous story I grew up with.
After his death I mentioned Olga to a senior military man at a Rememberance parade and he was scornful saying it was definitely a 'salty tale'. You can imagine how pleased I was to find a picture of Olga the reindeer in my father's belongings when I was clearing my former home after my mother died. Not a salty tale after all!
I would love to hear from anyone who knows about Olga the reindeer."
