Ibrar Ul-Haq and Shaneela Ibrar
Ibrar and Shaneela

Arranged Marriage

Listen to the item

Ibrar lives in Manchester with his wife Shaneela and 3 children. Their marriage was arranged 13 years ago. Ibrar believes it was much better than if he’d ‘married out of love’.

Shaneela knows that not all arranged marriages work but for her, so far, it has. She first saw Ibrar in person after the wedding ceremony.

Thinking about her own daughter, who is 7, Shaneela says that an arranged marriage would be ideal but things are changing and now growing up is very different to when she was younger. Her daughter's happiness is more important.
