Forced Marriage

Listen to the item

Jasvinder's idea of marriage differed so seriously from her parents’ plans that it led to an irreparable rift in the family and tragedy for another sister.

Jasvinder comes from a Sikh family in Derby. Just over twenty years ago when she was 15 her parents told her that a marriage had been arranged for her.

All five of her older sisters had had their marriages arranged for them. Or more to the point had their husbands arranged for them. Jasvinder talked about whether she had seen her fate coming.
