BRIAN BLESSED Brian Blessed is one of this country’s best known and respected actors. He has played numerous roles in theatre, film and television, creating the role of 'Old Deuteronomy' in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, Cats, playing many roles with the RSC, and 'Augustus Caesar’ in I Claudius for which he received the New York Critics Award. His latest role was that of Captain Hook in Peter Pan. He also has a great love of mountaineering and has been on three expeditions to Mount Everest.
THOMAS BUERGENTHAL Thomas Buergenthal is a judge at the International Court of Justice in The Hague. In his memoir A Lucky Child he tells of his imprisonment in Nazi ghettos and camps as a young child during the Second World War. After experiencing the turmoil of Europe's post-war years, he eventually went to America, studied at Harvard and became one of the world's leading experts on international law and human rights. A Lucky Child: A memoir of surviving Auschwitz as a young child is published by Profile Books.
PHILIP EARIS Philip Earis is a bellringer. He was asked by Cambridge University to compose a special piece to mark the University's 800th anniversary this year. His composition will be rung simultaneously on the five city-centre bell towers of Cambridge this weekend, Saturday 17th January.
DEBBIE KEEBLE Debbie Keeble is the Debbie in Debbie and Andrew’s sausages, a family run sausage business in North Yorkshire which has become a real success story in the food and farming industry. A former pig farmer, who set up the business with her husband on their 800 acre family farm in 1999, they have turned a cottage industry into a multi-million pound business success story. She has just won the prestigious Women in Farming award.
