Novelist and biographer Victoria Glendinning reviews an ambitious new television adaptation of DH Lawrence's Sons and Lovers. written by Simon Burke and driected by Stephen Whittaker, it stars Sarah Lancashire as Gertrude Morel, the mother of William and Paul. Disappointed with her own life, Gertrude seeks to control the lives of her sons through a combination of disaproval and itense affection.

THE BEATLES - GET BACK SESSIONS
Detectives today seized five hundred reel to reel tapes of the Beatles' most famous recording from 1969, the 'Get back' sessions. Six people were arrested in South-East England and near Amsterdam. The tapes were stolen not long after they were made. Police today described them as 'priceless'. John Aizlewood assesses their significance.
