THE SAM MENDES INTERVIEW
By his late 20s, Sam Mendes was running his own theatre company, the Donmar Warehouse in London. A few years later, his directing debut American Beauty netted five Oscars including Best Director. This month, his second film Road to Perdition starring Tom Hanks opens along with Mendes' London theatre productions of Uncle Vanya and Twelfth Night.
In a Front Row special programme, Sam Mendes talks to Mark Lawson about the art of the director, dealing with actors and coping with gossip columns.
