Antonio Pappano conducts Richard Strauss' opera Ariadne Auf Naxos at the Royal Opera House in London from Friday 6th September. The production will be broadcast live on Radio 3 on Saturday 21st September.

THE CHAIR
This week sees the start of a television show featuring a chair designed to make the sitter feel uncomfortable. John McEnroe is hosting a BBC1 gameshow in which contestants are wired to a electronic chair which measures heartbeat. The winner is the one who answers both correctly and coolly. Martin Kelner considers the televisual history of the Chair.
