It all started with a challenge. The BBC Radio Leeds all_2gether_now project came to BBC Radio 3 and said that in the Harehills, Burmantofts and Chapeltown areas of Leeds they really did have the 'world on our streets'.

We challenged them to back their claims by finding a variety of musicians playing a diverse range of world music worthy of broadcast- could they really do it?

The end result became our latest one hour World on your Street programme, presented by Liz Kershaw, broadcast on BBC Radio Leeds, and available here on the website.

The music includes uplifting Cuban dance tunes, bhangra, an Irish hornpipe, music from Kurdistan, and Leed's own 'urban fusion'.

All_2gether_now is a unique project which could be described as the BBC's first broadcasting club. Local people in the Harehills and Burmantofts areas of Leeds are taught broadcasting and web skills and see their work broadcast and published by the BBC.
