BACKGROUND
I've compiled a 'suite' of pieces by "serious" composers - with jazz connections: the sort of music I rarely hear on the radio except your show. The first item transforms from nonjazz to jazz, and dates from 1959, the second, a slow one, combines the strings of the LPO with an electric guitar and dates from 1980, and the third is perhaps better known, a wholly composed item by Steve Martland from 1994(?). The three seem to work together quite well and I'd like to hear other views. For my selections I've used discreet works (rather than excerpts) and restricted the length of items so that the whole is manageable.
