BACKGROUND
For Track one I chose a really good contemporary electro track by the excelent LFO- its disorentating, but its got a quality that diserning Radio 3 listeners might like. Secondly I chose a more harmonic piece by Jim Noir- this Manchester based singer has alot going for him, and this track is definatley a stand-out from his first album. Its less 'in your face' than 'Freak', but still is disorientating with the 1960s stylr riffs he employees to good use in the tracks. This is certainly a party track- its inspired by spain and everything spanish- its a good party track, but also has elements that transend its genre. Its hard to imagine that the artists came from Northern England!

Top choice this -- I agree about the 'aqua-sound' of the Requiem for the Kursk and Ingram Marshall's 'Gradual Requiem is an inspiring melding of synthesised sound and pipes. The Fields of the Nephilim track is the jewel in the crown though -- I loved Elyzium from 1990(?) and this particular new piece summons up all that wistful sorrow and gothic ambience I associate with this band. I think the Late Junction audience deserve to be introduced! Tom Bolan, London
Interesting choice. I wonder whether the compiler knew that BOC claim to be inspired largely by a sense of nostalgia for their childhood - which links intruigingly with the author's enthusiasm for the 'Carnival of Animals' selection. Very enjoyable - thanks! Akin, London
