Coope Boyes & Simpson: Jerusalem Revisited (4mins 51secs) Album: What We Sing Is What We Are No Masters NMCD50 Web Link 1: www.coopeboyesandsimpson.co.uk/
Although my shelves groan with music from many genres and cultures I always return to English Contemporary Folk whan I want to be uplifted and inspired. Robb Johnson is a hugely popular singer songwriter whose prolific output is, shamefully, little broadcast. St Ives End Lane is one of his gentler songs lamenting for a past we have lost forever. When I chose this track I forgot it had a reference to Jerusalem so the fit to the next song is partly fortuitous. Jim Boyes astonishing 'Jerusalem Revisited' reflects upon the sentiments of Blake's original as it applies today. It would have been too predictable to finish with 'Jerusalem' itself so I chose the uplifting end to possibly the greatest folk album ever (discuss!) 'Alright Jack'. This is the perfect remedy to the bad day -life is again a thing of beauty Enjoy!
