BACKGROUND
This is about fun!
The tawdry, hollow, brandy-laughter of Bilbao-Song as only Lotte Lenya can sing it – perfectly not quite on all the notes or beat. And just listen to that piano!
Upping the rhythm, how to dance the ‘son’ – you’ll need a dancer who’s a loose mover, with a waist like a blender – sings the remarkably mature voice of twenty-something Pedro Lugo Martinez (Nene).
Finally, John Lurie bellows the song of the Yak. The Lounge Lizards are a great live act, and I find this typically exuberant piece of theatre hilarious.
