BACKGROUND
I tend to like fairly rhythmic music, from Bach through to trance, and it seems these three tracks gradually build the rhythm sequence in three very different ways. The first track is a fine introduction to the work of Glass, and especially while listening in its original context, namely Shrader's film Mishima. The second by the sadly missed Talk Talk, introduces a simple but very effective drum pattern to underpin the wonderfully obscure vocal style of Mark hollis - with the words virtually unintelligable. Finally, the third, also from a film soundtrack, by drummer Stewart Copeland (of Police fame), increases the pace further. Unlike Copeland's pop work, this track marries superb drumming with African instrumentation and vocals, ending the sequence with a very satisfying final drum break.
