BACKGROUND
Three modern takes on the blues, pursued in three very different ways. Guy Blakeslee's Entrance are steeped in the blues, citing Blind Lemon this and Mississippi that as an influence, but with an obvious punk approach. The result adds a remarkable T-Rex elemnt to the Blues. JOanna Newsom is known as a harp plucker, but here she moves to piano for this dirgy, traditional-sounding number, with her usual poetic lyrics and unforgettable voice. Good old Johnny Dowd is one of those wonderful artists that peoplke either love instantly or conversely want to throw out of a window. He explores the dark underbelly of Southern life, love and lust, everything you need for the blues.
